The Eclipse 270 Freestanding Hardshell Awning takes everything that made the original Eclipse 270 Freestanding LED Awning the benchmark for 4WD shelter and wraps it in a heavy-duty aluminium hardshell for a new level of protection, durability, and convenience. With 7.5m² of coverage, integrated LED lighting, a zippered RTT entry hatch, and wind-tested freestanding performance, this is the awning for campers who take their touring setup seriously.

Heavy-Duty Aluminium Hardshell

The defining upgrade of this model is the aluminium hardshell that encloses the awning in transit. Where a standard fabric transit cover protects the canvas from dust and light debris, the hardshell delivers a meaningfully higher level of protection against impacts, UV degradation, and harsh outback conditions on long-distance drives. Magnetised silicone end caps provide secure closure and make accessing the awning fast and easy when you pull into camp, without fumbling with zips or buckles at the end of a long day on the tracks.

Wind-Tested Freestanding Performance

The Eclipse 270 Freestanding Hardshell Awning is rated to 30km/hr while freestanding, backed by real-world wind testing consistent with DARCHE's rigorous testing program. Engineered break points are built into the structure so that in extreme conditions, the awning fails in a way that protects your vehicle and allows for straightforward repairs. While the freestanding rating gives you confidence for standard conditions, we always recommend deploying the included two support poles and pegging down the guy ropes properly. Weather can change quickly and using the poles every time is the best way to protect your investment.

Integrated RTT Entry Hatch

A zippered access hatch is built directly into the awning canopy, creating a sheltered entry point into your rooftop tent. Rather than stepping out from under the awning to climb your ladder, the hatch aligns with your RTT entry point to keep you covered in rain and wind as you get in and out. It's a practical feature that makes a real difference on wet nights and cold mornings.

280gsm Ripstop Polycotton Canvas

The canopy is constructed from 280gsm ripstop polycotton canvas, a heavier and more durable fabric than the standard polycotton used in many competing awnings. The ripstop weave adds tear resistance that holds up through years of regular use, and polycotton breathes better than pure polyester, managing heat and moisture more effectively under the canopy on warm days. Built-in air vents and water drainage ports are included to prevent moisture and mould from building up inside the hardshell when the awning is packed away.

Dual-Colour Dimmable LED Lighting

Integrated dual-colour LED strips are built into the rafter arms and switchable between warm amber and bright white. Adjust the brightness to suit the mood, whether that's a relaxed evening atmosphere or full functional light for cooking and camp organisation. As with all Eclipse 270 Freestanding models, the lighting is built directly into the frame so there's nothing extra to hang, power independently, or pack.

Heavy-Duty Two-Piece Adjustable Aluminium Mounting Brackets

The awning comes with strong two-piece adjustable aluminium mounting brackets designed to lock the awning securely to most commercially available roof racks and platform setups. The two-piece design allows for adjustment to suit different rack heights and profiles, and also makes it straightforward to transfer the awning between vehicles without a full reinstall.

Compatible Wall Set Available Separately

Please note that this awning is not compatible with the standard Eclipse 270 Wall or wall sets. The compatible wall set for this model is the Hardshell 270 Awning Wall Set (T050801734WS), available separately. Adding the wall set encloses the sheltered area for full weather protection and significantly increases the usable campsite space.
