The KOZI Thredbo X is a hard shell roof top tent built to turn any vehicle into a proper off-grid base camp, without the complexity or price tag that usually comes with it. Available exclusively from the DARCHE website, it brings together an innovative X-hinge design, premium canvas construction, built-in power outlets, and German-engineered gas struts into a package that's ready to go the moment you pull into camp.

X-Hinge Design for More Space, Less Bulk

The defining feature of the Thredbo X is its X-hinge opening mechanism, which creates significantly more interior headroom and living space than a conventional clamshell hardshell of the same footprint. The X-hinge geometry also improves airflow through the tent body, helping to keep the interior cooler in warm conditions. Despite the larger interior, the tent closes down to a sleek, aerodynamic profile on the roof that minimises wind resistance and drag on the highway.

Premium 280gsm Ripstop Polycotton Canvas

The Thredbo X is fitted with 280gsm ripstop polycotton canvas, the same fabric weight used across DARCHE's premium touring tent range. Polycotton breathes better than polyester alone, reducing condensation inside the tent overnight, while the ripstop weave adds tear resistance that holds up through years of regular use. Taped seams throughout the body and reinforced stitching at all stress points keep water out in sustained rain, and self-repairing coil zips ensure reliable operation even after extended exposure to dust and grit.

Three Full-Width Entrances and an Oversized Removable Fly

Three full-width entrance doors give you flexible access from multiple angles, making it easy to configure entry to suit any campsite layout regardless of how you're parked. Built-in air vents keep passive airflow moving even when all doors are closed. The oversized removable fly covers all three entrances and adds a meaningful extra layer of weather protection when conditions deteriorate. On clear nights, remove it entirely and make the most of the open canvas views.

50mm Memory Foam Mattress

Inside the Thredbo X you'll find a 50mm memory foam mattress that delivers comfortable, well-supported sleep night after night. Unlike a standard foam slab, memory foam contours to your body shape and reduces pressure points, which makes a noticeable difference on longer trips when quality sleep has a real impact on how you feel on the trail the next day.

Built-In Power: 12V and USB Outlets

The Thredbo X includes integrated 12V and USB power outlets inside the tent, so you can charge phones, run a fan, or power a light without running cables from your vehicle. A battery or power source is not included and will need to be connected separately, but having the outlets built directly into the tent means everything is ready to plug in the moment you arrive at camp.

Dimmable Bi-Colour LED Lighting

Integrated dimmable bi-colour LED lighting gives you warm amber for relaxed evenings and bright white when you need functional light for reading or organising gear. The LEDs run from the tent's 12V system and can be adjusted to the right level for any situation. No separate camp light needed, and nothing extra to pack.

German-Engineered Stabilus Gas Struts

Stabilus gas struts, engineered in Germany and used across a wide range of premium automotive and industrial applications, make opening and closing the Thredbo X smooth and controlled at any temperature. There's no fighting the tent open after a long day on the tracks. The struts hold the tent open securely and allow it to be closed with minimal effort, making solo operation straightforward in all conditions.

Easy Setup and Access

The 2.3m aluminium telescopic ladder deploys quickly and suits most vehicle heights up to a maximum bed base height of 2.2m. Roof rails are included in the box, adding extra storage capacity on top of the tent for gear you want accessible but out of the living space. Internal side and roof storage pockets keep essentials organised inside the tent, and attachable shoe bags help keep dirt and dust outside where it belongs.

Installation Tips

The included mounting rails suit most commercially available flat roof rack and roof rail systems. Always check the weight rating and suitability of your roof rack and vehicle with the relevant manufacturer before purchase. Professional installation through a local 4WD centre or DARCHE retailer is recommended.
