At DARCHE, we aim to ensure that our gear can stand up to the tough Australian environment. That’s why we have put the Eclipse 180 Freestanding LED Awning through a comprehensive 30-day wind-testing regimen, with everything from gentle breezes to severe gales being thrown at the awning.

In our testing, the Eclipse 180 Freestanding LED Awning held up in winds over 50km/hr, and even after being damaged I was able to repeat the same performance with repairs. We used the Omega OM-CP-WIND101A wind speed data logger system, calibrated with data from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, to measure wind speeds every second during our testing. For more details on the wind meter, check it out here.

Based on results and observations gained over the wind testing period, the Eclipse 180 Freestanding LED Awning is rated up to 30km/hr winds whilst freestanding. However, our recommendation is that it you always deploy the included poles and tie down your awning properly using pegs and guy ropes as Mother Nature is unpredictable and we want to protect your investment.

Not only is the Eclipse 180 Freestanding LED Awning built to last, but it's also loaded with features that will raise your next outdoor adventure to the next level. There are dimmable LED strips neatly integrated into the rafter arms that also includes an amber setting to avoid attracting insects. The innovative two-piece backing plate design allows for a fully-enclosed transit cover, maximising weather resistance while still retaining the ability to easily move the awning from one vehicle to another. There are also 8mm sailtrack channels built into the backing plate, giving you the ability to attach a wide range of accessories to your awning.

If you are after even more protection from the elements, awning wall kits that increase coverage from 8.2 to 16.5 m2 are also available.

* Please note that if this awning is mounted to a roof top tent, the poles must be used at all times to avoid damaging your roof top tent.

* Ensure that your roof mounting system is fit for purpose. The supplied mounting brackets suit most commercially available roof racks or steel basket setups, however for some platform racks long brackets (T050801751B) may be required. For specific installation recommendations visit your local roof rack specialist.

Good setup

Bloody good product, a relative has run the 270 with walls for the past 5 yrs that’s been through some pretty savage storms so it was a no brainer for me. Arrived within a week 👍

Can’t fault it

We took a risk as we weren’t too sure if it would suit our needs? We attached it to a Jayco dove as we needed a new awning. Every concern I had (weight, height and fitting) was irrelevant after it was set up. The poles are long enough to reach the ground (2.4m). The fitting was straight forward. I didn’t use the supplied brackets as I was able to mount it directly to the side of the roof using the bolt tracks in the back of the awning plate and the weight is also supported by the door opening. The built in lights are also quick to set up and easy to use. Now I just need to see how the walls will work out. Great product, highly recommended.

Mounted up on the roof tray nice and easy. Set up and pack away absolute piece of p*ss and best of all, the minister of war and finance is happy… and isn’t that all that matters
