The DARCHE Ridgeback Hard Shell ECO Roof Top Tent is the flagship aluminium hard shell rooftop tent in the DARCHE range, built for overlanders and serious adventurers who want class-leading comfort, exceptional interior room and a premium all-weather shelter that sets up effortlessly from the top of their vehicle. The ECO variant takes everything that makes the Ridgeback the benchmark hard shell RTT and builds it from ecoWGAF recycled polyester fabric, saving approximately 185 plastic bottles from landfill per tent without compromising a single aspect of performance or durability.

Aerodynamic 6-Series Aluminium Shell

The Ridgeback's distinctive profile is built from 6-series aluminium with a heavy-duty aluminium honeycomb insulation base panel, giving it a rigid, low-profile shape that reduces wind drag and overall vehicle height on the road. The aerodynamic design is particularly well suited to lifted vehicles that need to manage wind resistance on highway drives between off-road adventures, and the compact packed dimensions mean it sits cleanly on most roof rack systems without dominating the roofline.

German-Engineered Stabilus Gas Struts

Setup is handled by German-engineered Stabilus gas struts that provide effortless one-person opening and closing. Flick the latches and the tent opens under its own power, ready to sleep in within seconds. The same struts assist packdown, making the Ridgeback one of the fastest hard shell roof top tents to live with on a trip where you're moving camp frequently.

55mm Memory Foam Mattress with Anti-Condensation Mat

The interior sleep surface is a 55mm memory foam mattress with a removable cover and water-resistant base, sitting on a 10mm high-rebound anti-condensation mat that eliminates the cold, damp base that affects lesser rooftop tent mattresses. The result is one of the most comfortable sleep setups available in a hard shell RTT at any price point.

Class-Leading Interior Room and Natural Light

Three full-width entry doors, a zippered sky window, built-in air vents and fine insect mesh on all windows give the Ridgeback exceptional ventilation and natural light inside the tent. The removable fly provides additional wet weather protection while still allowing the air vents to function, keeping condensation low even in extended rainy conditions. Internal USB-powered LED lighting (battery not included) is laboratory tested for electromagnetic compatibility and user safety compliance.

ecoWGAF Recycled Fabric Body and Fly

The body is built from ecoWGAF 280gsm recycled polyester oxford ripstop rated to an impressive 5000mm waterhead, with the fly rated to 3000mm. High-profile automotive rubber weather seals, taped seams, twin needle stitching and reinforced stitching on all stress points deliver all-season protection in serious Australian conditions. Self-repairing coil zips, internal side and roof storage pockets, a 2.3m easy-action aluminium telescopic ladder and UV50+ protection round out a tent built to handle years of hard use. For those wanting to add further functionality, Hardshell RTT Roof Rails accessory kits are available separately to expand what you can carry on the tent lid.

With roof rails accessory kits available (sold separately), the Ridgeback delivers everything you’ll ever need in a hard shell roof top tent and more. The included mounting brackets suit most commercially available flat roof rack or roof rail systems. Make sure to check the weight rating and suitability of your roof rack and vehicle with appropriate manufacturers prior to purchase. We recommend professional installation through your local 4WD centre or ask your DARCHE dealer for advice about installation.
